Down to Earth

Earth Day.
It's easy to think of Earth Day as a day where we care about the earth. What if we looked at it as a health check-up day? A day where we look at ourselves and how we're a part of this earth and see how healthy we are. Look at how healthy our relationships are. How healthy our connection to the planet is and how healthy our connection and kindness with ourselves is.
2020 is over. Are we still feeling the effects of it? Yes! Can we change our mindset and really connect to this moment as we move forward? Yes!
Last year I found myself at our warehouse every single second of every single day. I had 2 children who were without a mom for about 7 months as we pushed through, reorganized, restructured and revamped. One day it hit me that I wasn't treating myself, my kids or my husband in a healthy manner. This trickles down to our business, employees and even customer care as well. If we had pets, they would have been in that same neglected pile. I love to do trash clean-ups monthly and I didn't clean up trash for over a year.
I had to take a step back and really analyze what was important. It took meditation, writing and asking the earth how I could improve my relationships. I felt strongly that I needed to slow down. I needed to get up and do something other than put my nose to the grind. I needed to sit on the ground and build Star Wars Lego sets with my boys. I needed to read the book I'd been putting off even, if only 15 minutes a day, or go for a daily walk with my husband. Once I implemented this personal kindness, I started to feel healthy about myself again.
The earth wants to be healthy and the best way for us to support and allow the earth to support us back is to be healthy as well.
Take time for yourself and enjoy the moments that bring you joy. Pull out those books, cook, plant something, snuggle with your pet, kiddo(s) and/or spouse or anything you feel grateful for when you do it. I call all those moments, people, feelings, books, pets our “Shortie's”. So, from all of us to you, Happy Healthy Earth Day and Enjoy Your Shortie's.
